SOUNDWALK

“Soundwalk” is the M.A.R.E. research project dedicated to documenting and enhancing the soundscape. The objective is to promote a culture of conscious listening and recognize the value of sounds that generate well-being.

Through field recordings, we map the acoustics of urban, natural, and human-altered places. Villages, cities, coasts, and protected areas: every environment possesses its own unique and changing sonic signature.

Rethinking the soundscape means going beyond simple noise reduction. We work on sound ecology: we monitor how noise, biodiversity, and human activities modify the soundscape. We document this variation over time, providing useful data for territorial analysis, environmental education, and conscious urban design.

Listening thus becomes a tool for environmental and cultural analysis. Each soundwalk generates audio materials that flow into a digital archive, which can be consulted online. Listening with awareness means using sounds to understand where we are and to reconnect with what surrounds us—it is not just contemplation, it is responsibility.
